Due to an extraordinary work schedule, I have sadly been very quiet on Afri-love this month. I thought I'd replace some of the silence by sharing some of the things that I've been working on/doing.

Theatre: I Stand Corrected [London, UK]

I Stand Corrected opened yesterday at London's Ovalhouse Theatre.

"An eerie murder mystery where a queer wedding might have been, I Stand Corrected is a supernatural story of two black lesbian lovers from two different continents, trying to touch each other across a mortal divide. A new collaboration between the creator of sell-out Ovalhouse shows Moj of the Antarctic and Muhammad Ali and Me, Mojisola Adebayo and South African dancer Mamela Nyamza."

Continuing the sex-talk theme I witnessed with Film Africa, this production is a "passionate artistic response to an epidemic of hate rape and murder in South Africa and the virulent anti-gay marriage lobby in Britain."

Nairobi Half Life and Questions about Identity

The Film Africa festival launched opened last night with a fantastic film directed by Tosh Gitonga, Nairobi Half Life. Beautifully put together – story, cast, cinematography, direction, production! The world-class quality of this film has surely set the bar for Kenyan film and no wonder it's a submission for Best Foreign Language Film at next year's Oscars.
