Guinea-Bissau's independence was recognised today in 1974, almost a year after it was declared on September 24th, 1973.
Flora Gomes is a multi-award winning filmmaker from Guinea-Bissau. Below are clips from his first feature film (and first fiction film made in Guinea-Bissau), Mortu Negra (Those Whom Death Refused) and from his 2002 Nha Fala (My Voice).
These two films are available at the African Film Library. The African Film Library has negotiated film rights so that we can access online hundreds of films made by African filmmakers. As a student of African film, I am really excited by this truly amazing development! Hopefully it will bring these great stories and pieces of art to a wider audience. I'll be testing the service and letting you know more.
